(TORONTO, ON) – Two Canadians heard their names called at the 2015 NBA Draft: Trey Lyles (Saskatoon, SK) and Olivier Hanlan (Aylmer, QC).

Lyles, who played his freshman college season with Kentucky, was selected 12th overall by the Utah Jazz.

Hanlan, who finished his junior year with Boston College, was chosen 42nd overall by the Utah Jazz as well.

“Congratulations to Trey and Olivier on being drafted this evening. It’s tremendous to see athletes from across Canada making it to this stage,” said Rowan Barrett, Executive Vice President/ Assistant General Manager, Men’s High Performance, Canada Basketball. “We wish them success as they take the next step in their careers.”

Both players have represented Canada on the international stage. Lyles competed in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championships and finished 2nd in scoring while Canada finished sixth overall.

Hanlan played for Canada at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships and 2010 U18 FIBA Americas championship.

In 2014, Canada had a record of four athletes selected in the NBA draft: 1st overall pick, Andrew Wiggins (Vaughan, ON), 8th overall pick, Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, ON); 18th overall pick, Tyler Ennis (Brampton, ON) and Dwight Powell (Toronto, ON) who was selected 45th overall.

With 12 active players, Canada is the second-best represented country in the league, behind the United States.
