(TORONTO, ON) - The U19 Women's National Team dropped their second game at the FIBA World Championship in Chekhov, Russia, losing 58-54 to France. The team is now 1-1 in the competition.

"I'm very proud of how the girls battled. We got down 11 going into the fourth and fought back twice to get it down to three and four. We still have a chance to win our pool if we beat Belgium on Tuesday. Very proud of the girl's effort and we'll be ready for Tuesday." said Head Coach Rich Chambers.

Lauren Yearwood played well in the loss, scoring a team-high 17 points. Bridget Carleton chipped in 14 points. For full box score, click here.

"I thought we played well against a very aggressive French team. We had a couple lulls where we let them get a bit too far ahead. We fought back to make it a close game and we're looking forward to the next game," commented player Lauren Yearwood.

France grabbed the advantage early, with a 13 point lead in the first quarter. Canada gained some momentum in the next period, but the first half ended with Canada down 32-28.

It was more of the same in the second half. Canada was not able to pull ahead in the third quarter. France widened the gap at the three quarter mark and came out on top with a final score of 58-54.

Canada will regroup and play Belgium Tuesday July 21st at 6:30 AM EST. Watch live at youtube.com/FIBA.
