BANGKOK, Thailand (Mar. 15, 2025) – Canada’s 3x3 Women’s National Team went 2-0 on the opening day of the inaugural FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup, thanks to victories over Germany and Madagascar.
Game 1: Canada 14, Germany 10 (box score) • Game 2: Canada 21, Madagascar 6 (box score)
The pair of wins help secure Canada a spot in the semifinals of the event, which are set for Sunday in Bangkok.
After struggling to find their footing in their first game of the tournament against Germany, and the first for the team since winning gold at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s AmeriCup 2024, Canada responded with a decisive win over Madagascar.
“We’re excited to be back together, with another opportunity to play together, and grow as a group. Bangkok is a great bonus in all of this fun,” said Hamilton, Ont. product Saicha Grant-Allen.
Katherine Plouffe and Grant-Allen led the way for the Canadians in the win. Plouffe recorded 8 points and 5 rebounds, while Grant-Allen scored 7 points and hauled in 7 rebounds.
Grant-Allen and Paige Crozon each recorded 5 points in the win over Germany.
Grant-Allen, who suited up at Team Calgary at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Springfield Stop 2024, in addition to the AmeriCup last year, has started to find her groove with the likes of Plouffe, Crozon and Bosch.
“There’s plenty of knowledge that’s shared on and off-court that helps with shortening the learning curve and finding your own rhythm. Which is an added perk to the in-game adjustments and guidance that helps one to capitalize on their areas of excellence,” said Grant-Allen. “Everyone has something unique they bring to the table, and this group is intentional about making the most of that.
“It’s a blessing to continue to evolve as a 3x3 player alongside these experienced, but more importantly selfless athletes.”
Canada will wrap up Pool A action tomorrow morning, when they take on China in a matchup between the No. 1 and No. 6 ranked federations in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s World Rankings. Game time is set for 9:25 am ET / 6:25 am PT.
“There will be ebbs and flows, but we will remain focused on our own game and what’s within our control.”
A Canadian victory would ensure a first-place finish in Pool A and a matchup with the second-place finisher in Pool B in semifinal action on Sunday.
FIBA’s newest 3x3 competition showcases the world's top 16 3x3 basketball teams, featuring continental cup champions, top-ranked teams in the FIBA 3x3 rankings, Olympic gold medalists, and the host nation, representing 12 countries in total.
