Zach Edey and Laeticia Amihere have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week of November 15-21.
In the South Carolina (NCAA) win over Oregon, Amihere was second on the team in scoring with 18 points and shooting 60% from the field. Amihere also added 7 rebounds and 2 steals in the victory. The 6’2” forward played high school ball for King’s Christian Collegiate (OSBA) and is currently in her junior year at the University of South Carolina. The Mississauga, ON native has played over 30 games with Team Canada over the last four years and most recently represented Canada at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2020 and made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this past summer.
Over the past 3 games, Edey is averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds per game leading Purdue (NCAA) to 3 wins. One of these wins included the 2021 Hoop Hall Tip-Off Tournament Championship over the #5 ranked Villanova, where Edey was named to the All-Tournament team. Attending IMG Academy for high school, Edey committed to Purdue University in 2020, making him the tallest player in Big Ten history, standing at 7’4”. The Toronto, ON native represented Canada for the first time at the 2021 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Latvia this past summer, where he averaged 15.1 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, leading Canada to a bronze medal and being named to the Tournament All-Star Five Team.
