Zach Edey and Phillipina Kyei have been named Canada Basketball Toyota Canada Players of the Week for November 21 – 27.
It’s been an incredible start to the season for Zach Edey, who plays center south of the border for the Purdue men’s basketball team. The squad was crowned champions this past weekend at the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament in Portland, where Edey averaged 22.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, earning Most Valuable Player honours. Edey most recently suited up for Canada this past summer in FIBA World Cup Qualifying helping Canada stay undefeated en route to qualifying for the tournament next summer.
In Oregon’s win over Michigan State this past weekend, Kyei set new career-high's in points and rebounds, dropping 15 points – shooting 6-of-13 from the floor - while also grabbing 16 rebounds (seven offensive), as well as two blocks on the night. The double-double performance was her second of the season, and fourth in her career as an Oregon Duck. Kyei is coming off the heels of her first Senior Women’s National Team appearance this summer at the FIBA Women’s World Cup, where Canada finished fourth overall.
