#Flashbackfriday Happy Birthday Dr. Naismith!

Nov 6, 2015

NOVEMBER 6, 2015 - In December 1891, Canadian Dr. James Naismith, a physical education professor at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day.

After rejecting other ideas, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a 10-foot elevated track.

Naismith called the new game "Basketball". The first official game was played in the YMCA gymnasium in Albany, New York, on January 20, 1892, with nine players.

Fast forward to 2015, where the game is played worldwide and Canadianâ??s are the largest international presence in the NBA. 2016 marks the 125th anniversary of the invention of basketball. We would not be here without Dr. Naismith. [1]
