“I recall a moment during the 1999 tournament of the America's in which we were attempting to earn a bid to the Sydney Olympics.  We were on a roll and having fun while we won many of our games.  It can be a difficult thing to play 10 games in 12 days and Steve Nash knew we could use some fun to keep our spirits going.

After each game, we would gather at centre circle of the court in Puerto Rico.  Steve would talk to the team like a good captain does. After a key win, Steve changes his post-game dialogue a little bit. On this occasion he said - "great win fellas.....when we get back to the hotel (which happened to be on the beach)....I want everybody in the ocean for a game of 500!"

It was a great team building exercise and brought the team that much closer together.  This and other examples of Steve's leadership, both on and off the court, helped us to win a spot in the Sydney games in 2000.  What an amazing thing, to be able to represent your country, especially an incredible country like Canada, in the Olympic Games.  My memories of my time with the national team will be cherished forever." – Todd MacCulloc
