TORONTO, Ont. (February 28, 2022) -- Canada Basketball issued the following statement Monday, condemning the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine:

Canada Basketball stands in solidarity with Ukrainians, both living here in Canada and those residing in Ukraine.  Russia’s unjustified attack is not just an assault on Ukraine's sovereignty but democracy globally.  

Sport is a privilege, not a right, and the recent reckless, aggressive actions of Russia cannot be overlooked and that also extends to the basketball court.  As a result, Canada Basketball will not participate in any games against the Russian Basketball Federation until the rights and freedoms of the Ukrainian people have been reinstated.

Canada Basketball will also continue to support our players currently playing professionally in Russia and do all we can to ensure their safety.
