SCOTLAND - After a frustrating opening game against Great Britain, Canada came out strong in the first quarter and never looked back as they beat Great Britain, 63-50. Canada improved their record to 1-1 in the two exhibition games versus Great Britain.  

"We had a great win over Great Britain today," said head coach, Allison McNeill. "Our defensive effort was outstanding today and we got contribution from everybody on the floor. This series with Great Britain was a great experience as we prepare for the trip to the Olympic qualifier."

In the first quarter, Canada stormed out to a 14-2 lead and kept adding to it throughout the game. By the end of the first quarter, Canada had the 23-6 advantage. In the second frame, Great Britain began to chip into the Canadian lead and at the half Canada held the lead, 33-24.  

In the second half, Canada continued to play steady and maintained their lead. Great Britain made a run in the second half and cut the deficit to 35-39, but this was as close as they would get as Canada went on to win 63-50.  

"Today we played well as a team and we had contributions from everyone," said Canadian guard, Courtnay Pilypaitis." My teammates found me when I was open and I was able to make some shots."    

Canada had a balanced attack throughout the game. Courtnay Pilypaitis (Orleans, ON) had a team-high 13 points and Natalie Achonwa (Guelph, ON) grabbed 6 rebounds.

Canada will play Croatia next on Thursday, as they continue to prepare for the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women
