Canadian Women's Olympic Team Schedule

/

Jul 24, 2012

It’s been a long time coming for the Canadian Senior Women’s National Team, but they finally reached their goal of qualifying for the Olympics. After a memorable Canada Day, Canada took on Japan for the final spot in the 2012 London Olympics. Canada came out strong out of the gate and was able to hold on to the 71-63 victory to earn a berth into the London Olympic Games.

With only one player coming back from the 2000 Sydney Olympics (Teresa Gabriele) the team will be going through this Olympic experience with their eyes wide open. The team shouldn't be caught off guard, with most of the players being a part of World Championships and more recently, the pressure of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament earlier in July. With the core of the team being together for 4+ years, the team should be prepared and ready to go, once the tournament begins on July 28.

The team has a mix of veterans with plenty of experience like Teresa Gabriele, Kim Smith and Chelsea Aubry, along with a mix of youth with Natalie Achonwa and Michelle Plouffe. To see the complete roster, click here.

Canada was placed in Group B, along with; Australia, Brazil, France, Great Britain and Russia. Canada will open the games on July 28 against the European Champs, Russia. For additional tournament information, click here.
