Canada Basketball is excited to announce Dawn Smyth will be joining the Canada Basketball team as the Manager, Coach Education and Development.

The role is designed to create a knowledge sharing platform for basketball coach education and development in Canada and Dawn’s experience makes her the optimal person to fulfill this role. She has insight to many facets of basketball – coaching (CCAA, CIS, Provincial Teams, Centre for Performance) and officiating (grassroots to college) – and will provide great awareness while building information distribution processes for the Canadian basketball community.

“I am excited to work alongside Canada’s many strong coaches, drawing and sharing their knowledge and experience across the coaching community through the NCCP, video, coaching schools and clinics,” said Dawn.

Dawn’s responsibilities in the position will include oversight of the NCCP, development of coach schools, creating video to support coach education and working to bridge grassroots coaching development with high performance coaching development.

“We’re very happy we were able to find someone of Dawn’s calibre to fill this role,” said Michele O'Keefe, Director, Basketball Operations. “This position is crucial for basketball in Canada if we are to continue the momentum that the basketball community has started.  Canada Basketball is striving to be leader in knowledge gathering and sharing in coach education. With Dawn’s experience in Canada and abroad, as well as her educational background, she is the ideal person to help us implement and activate NCCP and share Canada Basketball’s curriculum to coaches across the country.”

Dawn will begin the position in the Canada Basketball office on May 22, 2012.
