Oakville, ON: To date, Tammy Sutton-Brown is the only female from Ontario, or Canada for that fact to currently suit up in a WNBA uniform.Sutton-Brown was one of our GTA’s most talented athletes. She attended Markham High (Markham, Ontario) and led the Maurauders to 4 consecutive regional championships. Considering her standout performances in Ontario, Tammy was a player that many coaches both in Canada and America pursued heavily. In her senior year of high school Sutton-Brown committed and signed to play under Hall of Famer Coach Vivian Stringer at Rutgers University.

Tammy’s ability to adjust her style of play from home in Canada to the American fast paced, more physical game was second to none. In her Freshman year she played an integral role on her team as a presence inside. By the time Sutton-Brown was a junior she led her Rutgers team to their 1st ever Final Four appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Over her years at Rutgers Tammy was soon referred to as Simba, (Lion King) because of her growth process on the court while she was in University.

Following a stellar senior campaign there was little doubt in anyone’s mind, that Brown would not get drafted. In 2001 she was selected as the 18th overall draft pick to the Charlotte Sting. A year after Charlotte’s team folded, Tammy signed as a  free agent to the Indiana Fever, where she will be entering her 6th season this spring. As of now, Sutton-Brown is the only Canadian to be selected to the WNBA All Star Game..twice!

Tammy’s long list of accomplishments and record-breaking performances is long enough to fill up this article. However, it’s her efforts off the court that has sparked Get Recruited’s fascination. Tammy Sutton-Brown has published her first children’s book, entitled “Cree and Scooter hit the slopes in British Columbia.”
