Canada Basketball is sad to hear the passing of Peter Mullins.  

Peter Mullins was a great innovator to the game of basketball in Canada. He served as the UBC basketball coach and set the record for longest serving UBC basketball coach (20 years). In those 20 years mentoring the men’s basketball team, he guided his teams to seven Canada West Championships and two Canadian Championships. Peter also coached Canada’s National Team where he piloted a new four-year program of selection and training of Canadian players in preparation for the 1971 Pan-Am Games and the 1972 Olympics.  

Peter was also a gifted athlete. In Australia he was a part of three championship basketball teams and also represented Australia in the 1948 Olympics by participating in the decathlon event, where he placed fifth.  

While coaching and teaching at UBC, Mullins played competitive basketball in a Senior ‘A’ league. He was selected to represent Canada at the World Basketball Tournament in 1959.  

His contribution to basketball in Canada, has been recognized through the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy, awarded annually to the CIS rookie of the year. He was also inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame and B.C. Basketball Hall of Fame.
