/

Nov 5, 2012

After a very successful national team season for Kim Smith, she got the itch to play professionally again and signed a contract with Tarbes GB (France) over the weekend.

The Mission, B.C. native had another strong season for the women’s national team. Smith helped guide Canada to a quarter-final berth and a top-8 finish at the 2012 London Olympics. During the six games in London, Smith finished ninth in scoring with 13.8 points and finished second in field-goal percentage (.577) and second in 3-point shooting percentage (.500).

This will be Smith’s fourth professional team she has played on and first since the 2010-11 season.  Smith was drafted 13th overall in the 2006 WNBA draft by Sacramento and played for the team for three seasons. Following the 2008 season with Sacramento, Smith played in Belgium for Dexia Namur for a season and then played again in 2010-11 season in Spain with EBE-Ibiza.

Before playing professional, Smith attended and played at Utah in the NCAA.

For two other members on the senior women’s national team, Lizanne Murphy and Shona Thorburn, they will clash against Kim Smith and her Tarbes GB team on December 1st when Tarbes takes on Aix-en-Provence.
