Toronto – In the first ever Red and White Game, featuring Junior Men’s National Team hopefuls, Team White prevailed late in the fourth quarter to beat Team Red, 56-54 at Humber College, North Campus Gym.

“I’m extremely pleased with the level of intensity and how serious the kids took it on the floor,” said head coach, Roy Rana. “It was great from a community perspective, seeing everyone supporting the team as we try to qualify for the World Championships next year.”

The high scorers from each team were Andrew Wiggins (Concord, ON) from Team Red and Trey Lyles (Saskatoon, SK) from Team White.

In the first half both teams started slow, but began to find their range as time went on. Team Red opened with at 15-12 after the opening frame. The second quarter continued to be an even game with Team Red taking a 31-25 lead at the half.

The second half started as a defensive affair, as both teams displayed their defensive skills. Team White found a way to hang around which set them up for an opportunity to get them a victory in the fourth quarter. Late in the fourth, Team White began to make a run and eventually tied the game late. With less than seven seconds left, Tyler Ennis found a lane and made the basket to give Team White the 56-54 lead. Team Red had an opportunity at the end of the game to tie or gain the lead, but failed to connect on the final shot.

“It was great to see all the fans support the team and we put on an exciting basketball game for the fans,” said Trey Lyles.

In the Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS) Future Prospects Game, Team Red beat Team White in a tight game, 65-63.
