OTTAWA (CIS) – Roxane Hasseni, a volleyball player from the University of Sherbrooke, and Max Allin, a basketball player from Wilfrid Laurier University, are the CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 13, 2013.

Allin, a fourth-year arts student from Chatham, Ont., averaged a remarkable 35.5 points per contest last week, including a record-breaking performance on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 guard kicked off the Hawks’ two-game set last Wednesday with a 28-point, 10-assist double-double in a 112-92 upset win over No. 8-ranked Windsor. The CIS scoring leader (26.3 ppg) then exploded for a single-game school record 43 points on Saturday in a 94-88 loss to Guelph, including 13-of-20 shooting from the floor, 6-of-10 from three-point range and 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

After reaching the top of the national rankings last Tuesday for the first time in program history, Fraser Valley (11-1) enjoyed a solid weekend with home wins over Saskatchewan (6-6), 71-62, and Alberta (7-5), 74-50. The Cascades, who are tied with No. 2 Regina for the best record in Canada West, visit Calgary (10-2) and Lethbridge (5-7) this week.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Top-ranked Carleton (11-1) was dominant in road victories against Toronto (2-9), 91-57, and Ryerson (10-1), 91-66. The Ravens, who host Queen’s (9-3) on Saturday, now hold the best mark in the OUA thanks to their win over previously undefeated Ryerson, which moves up one spot to No. 6 in the new coaches’ poll despite its lopsided loss to the reigning CIS champions.
