OTTAWA (CIS) - Justine Colley, a fourth-year commerce student from East Preston, N.S., averaged a remarkable 35 points per game last weekend as the AUS-leading Huskies defeated UNB 75-67 and StFX 94-57 to improve to 11-0 in league play and move up to a season-high No. 2 in the national rankings. The 5-foot-9 guard, who finished the two-game set with 70 points in 64 minutes of court time, tallied 39 points, five rebounds and seven steals in Friday’s win over the V-Reds before adding 31 points, seven boards and seven assists against the X-Women on Sunday. A two-time all-Canadian and CIS scoring champion, Colley once again leads the country this season with an average of 27.9 points per contest.

McGill hockey player Katia Clément-Heydra, Brock basketball player Nicole Rosenkranz and Calgary basketball player Jessica Franz were also nominated for the women’s award.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The reigning two-time CIS champion Lancers move up two spots in the ninth coaches’ poll of the season after they improved to 13-0 in conference play thanks to road wins over McMaster (6-7), 56-48, and Guelph (4-9), 68-53. Windsor had topped the first six polls of the campaign before dropping to third place behind Fraser Valley and Regina two weeks ago. The national champs will look to resume their winning ways when they host McMaster on Wednesday and visit Waterloo (0-13) on Saturday.

Rounding out the leading quintet in the new Top 10 are the undefeated Saint Mary’s Huskies (11-0), who move up two positions to a season-high No. 2; Regina Cougars (12-2), down one spot to No. 3; Fraser Valley Cascades (11-3), down three to No. 4; and Carleton Ravens (10-3), up one to No. 5.

Fraser Valley’s reign atop the national rankings came to an abrupt end after only two weeks. After winning 11 of their first 12 league contests, the Cascades dropped their two road games in Alberta last weekend, 79-69 in overtime to No. 10 Calgary (12-2) and 64-59 to Lethbridge (6-8).

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Carleton (12-1) crushed visiting Queen’s (9-5) 104-63 on Saturday in its lone outing of the past week. The reigning CIS champs play three more home games this week, first on Wednesday night against No. 8 Ottawa (11-2) in the annual Capital Hoops Classic at Scotiabank Place, and then versus York (5-8) and Laurentian (7-6) this weekend at the Ravens’ Nest.
