(Toronto, ON) – The Nike Hoop Summit’s World Select Team was announced today with three Canadians named to the World Team.

Anthony Bennett (Brampton, ON) and Andrew Wiggins (Toronto, ON) will play for the World Team, which will be led by Canadian coach, Roy Rana (Toronto, ON) who is a six-year veteran of Canadian national team basketball and was recently appointed head coach of Canada’s Junior National Team in 2012.

“It is an incredible honor to lead the World Team once again in the 2012 Hoop Summit,” Rana said. “The Hoop Summit is one of the premier events on the global basketball calendar, and I’m looking forward to another competitive battle against a very talented USA team.”

The Nike Hoop Summit, featuring many of the world's leading basketball players aged 19-years-old or younger, which will take place on Saturday, April 7 (7 p.m. PDT tipoff) at the Rose Garden, in Portland, Oregon.

This marks the third straight year Canada has had two players participating in the game. In 2010, Tristan Thompson (Brampton, ON) and Cory Joseph (Pickering, ON) played in the prestigious game; last year Kevin Pangos (Holland Landing, ON) and Kyle Wiltjer (Portland, OR) were a part of the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit.

Anthony Bennett has been playing for Findlay Prep in Nevada. He averaged 16 points and 10.1 rebounds a game this year and helped Findlay become the second ranked school in America by ESPN.

Andrew Wiggins has been playing for Huntington Prep school in West Virginia. As a sophomore, Andrew averaged 24.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.7 blocks per game. Andrew is currently rated the number one prospect for the 2014 recruiting class by ESPN and was named West Virginia Boys Hoop Player of the Year.

Andrew and Anthony have both represented Canada in FIBA sanctioned events. They were teammates in the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship team where they both helped Canada earn a bronze medal. Anthony also participated in the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Men, where Canada placed third.

Roy Rana will be coaching in his second straight Nike Hoops Summit. In his first appearance last year, the World Select Team put up a fight, but ended up losing 92-80.

The United States holds an 11-3 advantage in the Nike Hoop Summit. The last victory for the World Select Team occurred in 2009 when they won 97-89.
