U15/U17 Girls National Championships: Day One Recap

The host team, Alberta tops Quebec in OT in Day 1 action!

The opening day of the 2015 Canada Basketball U15 and U17 National Championships saw the U17 Alberta girls top Quebec in an overtime thriller!

Behind 14 points and 16 rebounds from Summer Masikewich, Amy Mazutinec's 15 points and 8 rebounds and Lovietta Walker's timely 3's, Alberta clinched the opening day win. Quebec was lead by Trisha Villedrouin who came off the bench to put in 11 points.

Standout performances from the day include Bridget Mulholland of the Ontario U17 team who finished with 23 points shooting 10 of 16 from the field and 6 rebounds in just 16 minutes. More strong play from Ontario on the U15 team from Christina Morra finishing the day with 15 points shooting 7 of 10 from the floor and 13 rebounds in 22 minutes. Tori Hanson from the Saskatchewan U15 girls shot 4 of 6 from the 3 to finish with 14 points!

Tomorrow's games will build on today's excitement. The U15 Alberta girls will take on New Brunswick in winners game while Saskatchewan takes on Ontario with the winner moving to 2-0.

On the U17 side, Saskatchewan takes on Quebec in an important match up while Alberta looks to build on today's win taking the defending champion from last year's championship, Team Manibota.

A great first day is in the books, we all look forward to an exciting Day 2!
