TORONTO, Ont. (December 18, 2020) - The Canada Basketball Foundation (CBF) partnered with Jump Thru Hoops, a youth development program that empowers young people through community service and basketball, on Thursday to spread some holiday cheer this season. The two organizations delivered over $15,000 in toys and gifts to disadvantaged youth in Toronto, while also raising funds for the Canada Basketball Foundation’s "Make the Assist” campaign.
Jump Thru Hoops is dedicated to mentoring players on and off the court. Since the beginning of November, Jump Thru Hoops has been collecting toys for youth impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The two groups made the deliveries yesterday to the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Humewood House, which helps some of Toronto’s most vulnerable single parents and their children, as well as a number of other deserving community organizations.
In addition, Jump Thru Hoops has also been collecting monetary donations for the CBF to support the growth and development of basketball across the country. Donations will go towards three priority areas, including: youth outreach, officials and coaches development, and supporting Canada’s national teams on the road to Tokyo 2020.
In support of the initiative, Canada Basketball also donated over 200 pairs of socks to youth in need, while Canada Basketball staff were on hand to assist in the delivery and distribution of toys. Danilo Djuricic, a member of Canada's gold medal winning team at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Egypt, was also involved in the drop-off.
Toyota Canada, the proud mobility partner of Canada Basketball, provided the vehicles to help make the deliveries possible and also made a generous contribution to the gift packs.
