Quarter-finals 1

British Columbia took their lumps in the preliminary round but are moving on to the quarterfinals with a 76-42 win in the Round of Six over Prince Edward Island. B.C. will now play undefeated Saskatchewan Thursday at 6pm.

Michelle Bos had an effective game for B.C. scoring 19 points on 80 per cent shooting from the field and grabbing 6 rebounds. Tayla Jackson had 14 points and eight rebounds and Jessica Brown nailed five three-pointers for 15 points in the game. P.E.I. was again led by the all-around play of Jessica Patenaude, who finished with a team-high 13 points.

In Newfoundland and Nova Scotia's Round of Six match, Nova Scotia held a 44-33 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Newfoundland team put together an excellent fourth quarter and tied the game with a three from Geana George with 30 seconds remaining. Nova Scotia was effective from the free-throw line and a steal by guard Desiree Oakley sealed the win in the final seconds, final score: 53-50.

Jayla Verney had 17 points for Nova Scotia, Jane Boyle had 12 rebounds, and Hannah Brown finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Nova Scotia led by as many as 17 points, but survived the comeback and will play Ontario on Thursday at 8:15pm.

At the Palais des Sports, Manitoba and Quebec contested the first quarterfinal match. The host team jumped out to a 12-2 lead to the delight of the French fans, but the lead wouldn't last. Manitoba took the advantage just before the end of the first half and by the time Nikala Majewski hit a three-pointer midway through the third, Manitoba had taken a ten-point lead of their own.

Kyanna Giles, who just recently turned 15 years old, led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds. The dominating point guard said after the game, "I think the difference was we came together as a team, believed in each other and supported each other really well. We're going for gold so we just need to get the semifinals over."

Nikala Majewski scored 14 and grabbed seven rebounds and Jordan Tully and Jasmine Ibrahim added 11 points apiece. Quebec's Raphaelle Roy Ash and Frederique Beauchamp both scored 16 to lead Quebec.

New Brunswick took an early 14-3 lead over Alberta, but the 2009 Canada Games champs fought back and took the lead in the second quarter. Alberta seemed to have control over the game, but New Brunswick came within two points in the final minute, eventually ending 51-46 for Alberta.

"We got into our own heads and to get out of it we had to encourage each other and stay positive on the court," said Alberta guard Kacie Bosch. "We have to be consistent and out-work our opponents because we'll be smaller than the rest of the teams we play so we have to hustle and not allow them to get those offensive boards."

Quarter-finals 2

In consolation play to open the day New Brunswick's U17 Women flexed their muscle with a 74-28 win over Prince Edward Island. New Brunswick dominated the rebounds, getting second-chance points and points in the paint. Four New Brunswick players ended in double-figures led by Sarah McGeachy with 13 points, and will now play Saskatchewan in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 3:15 local time.

Team Quebec won their classification match 60-45 over Newfoundland and will play Nova Scotia in the placement bracket Friday at 1:00. Leony Boudreau led Quebec with 15 points and six rebounds and Nedege Pluviose added 10 points and Quebec never trailed.

A surging British Columbia squad met undefeated Saskatchewan in the Quarterfinals at the Palais des Sports. After going 3-0 in pool play Saskatchewan looked like the team to beat outside of Ontario, but BC surprised them with their interior presence and ball movement.

Saskatchewan held an early lead by as many as nine points, but shot just 26 per cent from the field in the match. BC beat the up on the boards and now after losing their first two games of the tournament, find themselves in the Semifinals against Alberta who beat them on the first day of competition.

"We really came together as a team and turned things around," said BC post player Lauren Yearwood, who finished the game with 18 points and 12 rebounds. "We started playing a lot better together and using each others energy and I think that really helped change our game from the beginning of the week until now and I think we're back to normal, have some momentum and we're feeling good."

Ontario advanced to the Semifinals with another convincing win, this time 86-33 over Nova Scotia. Other coaches in the building were in awe of the Ontario U17 Women, saying they have no weaknesses.

"At the beginning of the season I wasnt sure where we'd end up at Canada Games but when we came in and started after our last training camp we all believed we'd make it at least this far," said Lauren Handy who scored agame-high 16 points. "All of our work we put in in training camps, I think we expected to get this far from the beginning of the summer until now and we can see the progress and our hard work is paying off."

Ontario will play Manitoba Friday at 8:15pm local time in the Semifinal, with a berth in the gold medal game on the line.
