ISTANBUL, Turkey (July 6, 2024) - Canada’s U17 Men’s National Team fought hard but ultimately fell 104-106 in overtime to Lithuania in the 5-6 classification game at the FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup.

After falling to the USA in the quarterfinals, Canada is now in the classification stage and will finish in either 7th or 8th place following tomorrow’s final game.

After falling to a double-digit lead early, the team hung around with Lithuania for the entire game.

Five of Canada’s players finished in double-digits, including a clutch three from Quinten Ethier in the final seconds of the game that would end up being the OT-clinching shot. Ethier finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Jordan Charles was the team’s leading scorer, finishing with an impressive 32 points, shooting 4-6 from three.

TJ Wal continued to impress with more minutes, finishing with 13 points, including a stretch where he knocked down several midrange jumpers in the third quarter to give Canada a significant run heading into the fourth.

Amari Upshaw also saw increased minutes. He impressed with his speed down the court and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Stefan Ilic was the fifth player in double-digits, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds, a near double-double.

The game went down to the wire in overtime, with Lithuania sustaining a two-point lead to win. Canada will face Spain tomorrow, July 7, at 4:30 a.m. ET / 1:30 a.m. PT in the 7-8 classification game.
